Performance, comfort and style all come together in this powerful bluewater cruising yacht. Displaying excellent bloodlines, Concerto is another ocean thoroughbred from the internationally renowned Warwick Yacht Design studio.
With accommodation for six guests and Captain and crew Concerto is of raised pilothouse configuration with an upper saloon and interior steering station overlooking a lower dining saloon.
The accommodations have been exceptionally well designed to cushion guests in comfort. The space planning provides great flexibility, making this a perfect vessel for owner-operator private use, or for charter work – or both.
In the entertainment areas of the yacht, great emphasis has been placed on maintaining visual connection with the outdoors. Whether sitting or standing, superb views open up all around.
The master stateroom is aft and occupies the full width of the yacht. It includes a settee, generous cupboard space, a sophisticated plasma TV and ensuite bathroom. An adjacent study can double as an occasional guest room, or children’s cabin, with pullman bunks.
The central part of the yacht is devoted to the upper saloon and navigation centre, with another congenial dining area in the lower saloon, opposite the well-appointed galley.
Forward of the galley is a double guest cabin with ensuite bathroom and a second twin cabin for two professional crew, or additional guests.
The large owner’s cabin aft is adjoined by a further guest cabin which doubles as the owner’s study and office with an adjacent day heads.
Having previously owned a yacht with New Zealand timbers used throughout the interior his first choice was for the native tawa as the lining timber. Soft suede’s and high quality fabrics are used throughout Concerto with the interior design handled by WYD in close cooperation with the owners.
Sailing systems are designed to maximise performance and minimise effort in all conditions. All sailing functions can be directed from the superbly appointed cockpit. In-boom furling and a self-tacking jib make for ease of handling in all conditions. A large furling genoa helps reel off the miles running down the trades. Even anchoring is a simple push button operation from the twin helm stations.
The single part mainsheet and halyard are controlled by reel winches below the galley floor and automatically activated from the helm stations. Under sail, or power, the Concerto is capable of putting in big mileages – day after day. The large sail plan is balanced by a powerful keel, ensuring seakindly sailing performance.
High quality equipment throughout gives peace of mind in any conditions. Large screen navigational information is displayed at both cockpit and wheelhouse helm stations and complimented with the extensive use of flat screens and surround sound entertainment. State-of-the-art navigation and communication electronics, from, Simrad mean owners and guests can make for the remotest locations – yet stay in touch with the world when necessary.
And, when it is time to motor, the variable pitch Hundested propeller can punch its way into tough seas. Close quarters manoeuvring is easily handled with assistance from the bowthruster. The stylish carbon-fibre arch behind the twin steering stations serves a number of functions. It anchors the mainsheet, keeping the cockpit free of lines and it also provides support for the demountable cockpit cover, affording welcome shelter from the tropical sun. Another bonus is it allows you to walk through the centre line of the arch between the twin wheels freely.
The cockpit is superbly appointed for alfresco entertaining, with a clever multi-fold table providing seating for 12. For those who want to feel the wind in their hair, the teak cockpit bench that straddles the transom is a favourite haunt. There is storage under for the life raft and bbq.
Easy access to and from the water is via the wide boarding platform set into the transom, which is indented for storage of dive gear. A large tender is carried on the stainless hydraulic davits, which make lifting and launching simplicity itself.
By day, guests can build up an appetite with a full range of watersport equipment. By night, sophisticated on-board entertainment systems can match the mood – whether it’s simply a musical backdrop to a gourmet, or watching a movie from the on-board library.
Concerto is designed and built in composite construction to the highest classifications including CE and Friendshipian U.S.L. Built by Whangarei based Friendship Yachts for an Friendshipian owner, Concerto is the first of this design by WYD and is totally customised to the owners exacting requirements.
Built over a male plug of composite construction with an inner and outer skin over a foam core, Concerto is described as a moderate displacement performance cruiser boat with modern sailing systems that can be handled easily by a small crew. Spacious, with the interior you would expect to find in a 30m boat, Concerto is an outstanding example of the Kiwi custom boat building capabilities and skills that keep bringing overseas clients back to local yards.
